A band called Featherstone, brought to life by multi-instrumentalist Rikard Quist who is known for having contributed stuff to several bands before. This is the debut of the project Quist brought to life in order to create a masterpiece he could call his own. The artwork cannot be described as a masterpiece and the title isn’t really one of a masterpiece either, but I never judge anything by its cover so how about it? Is it a masterpiece?

Well, from a creative standpoint it isn’t really that masterful, the songs are rather typical of the melodic rock music genre. Great production, catchy choruses, strong melodies, and decent vocals – they have everything one can expect from a melodic rock standpoint. The standard variation of songs, ten of them that play for 40 minutes and we get no real surprises but I don’t doubt it will go down well with the genre fans as they generally don’t like to be surprised.

Pretty good album overall, nothing earth-shattering but it is good and it has some really great parts just to make it more interesting. As I have stated before, I think that it is an album that will go down well with fans of the genre. I have enjoyed listening to it but I wouldn’t describe it as a masterpiece and objectively it would be strange if Quist really saw this as something of his own as it is stylistically not really different from what Quist have been doing with other bands already. Then again, maybe originality wasn’t what he was going for.

In the end I think that this is a solid album, good songs and everything – fans of the genre will like it. I like it as well but it feels a little bit too anonymous to really shine, but I really enjoy the fourth track – it is by far the most memorable thing of the album. So it may be creatively uninteresting but it is also a good album, so it might be worth checking out.
