I am a big fan of truths that can be explained in a simple phrase like “less is more” and those kinds of things used to point at some aspect of the creation of a work like a movie, piece of music or written stories. One of these sayings is also “familiarity breeds contempt” which I can say is very true when talking about this band, a dozen albums in a dozen years is one thing but a dozen very similar album is a whole other thing and they didn’t exactly start out as unique to begin with either. Two long sentences there. And one short, this album follows about a year on from the pretty dreadful level eleven that was best described by another reviewer as eleven watered down songs and I can’t do anything but agree with that.

I did a bit of checking on this band following that album thinking that they could not be that dreadful all the time but I have to say that their albums are a bit hit or miss, either they do it really well or they do something bland and forgetful – it seems to be down to chance. But compared with last year’s album this one has a more raunchy production; it is more raw and less of a Disney Princess theme to it – which is good. The vocalist sounds a whole lot better; he was quite poor last time around while this time I think he sounds great. But don’t expect to hear anything but the familiar tunes, they walk the well-threaded paths and we have heard it before. The songs are the usual selection but with an added cover to make it a little more interesting. The variation is what one could expect from an album like this, it is the usual songs from an album like this plain and simple.

Thing is though that familiarity brings contempt but sometimes when the familiar stuff is done really well one can overlook such things as lacking originality and creative ideas. That lacking is balanced with great songs and production, I think this album sounds really well – it seems like fortunes favoured them this time and if they do copy music in this fashion it will probably be okay for an album or two but one will still grow tired of them at the same time so I cannot help but being a little cautious in my optimism over this band. Still, this album is great and it will be well worth looking at as it works really well, fans of the genre will most likely find this album very appealing.

Despite all the good work they have done and the hit potential on the album it is still the cover Take it on the Run originally done better by REO Speedwagon that is the best track of the album. I also think that the opening track is another really strong point of the album sets a good tone that is well maintained throughout the album – yeah I really like this album and if you enjoy this kind of music I am quite sure that you will enjoy it as well – the did it right this time.
