Distance that makes us cold is what we are getting when Karnak Seti returns to the limelight in a big bang. That is how you can describe the return of the Portuguese melodic death metal heroes that goes by the name Karnak Seti. We have been kept waiting while the band, at least according to the press info, wrote and recorded their best work to date. That all sounds great considering the quality of their previous album and the artwork looks fairly similar to what they did last time so perhaps one should get the hopes up. The press info state that this is their most complete and sophisticated effort to date, so is it?

Musically it is in the same vein as their previous effort, melodic death metal with plenty of catchiness but also power. Dark growly vocals, strong variation and an excellent production is what we are getting from this album. In regards to the production it is their strongest effort to date, that much is certain. It is clear that these guys are inspired by the Swedish melodic death metal bands that burst out on the stage many years ago, and they have started from that point and then given it their own twist – kind of freshened it up in their own way giving them a fairly fresh sound while they still remain familiar enough for those who fear change. That is a very strong approach that will probably appeal to many.

It certainly appeals to me and I find this album most enjoyable and that is despite it being a death metal album playing for well over fifty minutes. It is both exciting and entertaining, fresh and really good. I think they might actually be better than ever, although I have yet to hear their first album so I cannot be completely certain of that. It is a band that offers the familiar yet brings us something fresh, I would say that this is how you should do it if you make a new album in a familiar genre, maybe they should teach some other bands how to do it. I think that a recommendation is in place, this album is well worth checking out and I am quite sure that none of those who get this album will find it less then great and it would not be exaggerating to put this as one of the greatest of the year so far.

Eleven very strong tracks on this album, an album that I don’t find many weaknesses on as it has more or less everything you could want from a great melodic death metal album. But if I were to pick a favourite song it would be the title track but it holds is position with the narrowest of margins. In the end I would claim that this is a great album and that I really like it. I would also give the press sheet writer right as this is most likely their greatest album so far and a very complete and sophisticated album, you should not miss it.
