From the Far East we have received an album by some group of Japanese people that call themselves Ancient Myth, clever name for band from a nation built on ancient myths. This is, as far as I know, the first female fronted Japanese band I have heard. They have a pretty dull artwork for this album called Aberration, their fourth album that is being released in two digital versions, one in English and one in Japanese and this one I am reviewing that is being released in a physical version and it is bilingual.

It being bilingual means it is easy to know it is a Japanese band as some songs are sung in Japanese but you really hear that they are Japanese before getting to one of the Japanese versions. The sound Japanese bands have is quite characteristic and these guys sound kind of typical of that so if you know Japanese styled power/symphonic metal then you will know more or less how these guys sound. The vocalist is pretty decent, her Engrish vocals are better than most Japanese bands I have heard but she still sounds way better in Japanese. I think it is a good production and relatively varied with decent enough playing time on thirteen tracks and that leads me to think that this is a solid power/symphony metal production.

Decent album, they do what they do quite well and I think that if you enjoy Japanese metal you will most likely enjoy this album as well. It has good songs, particularly the ones in Japanese where I think they do way better than they do in English – just wants to point out that the songs in English aren’t that bad either. But I think the album needs a bit more energy, they do have more energy in the Japanese versions but overall I think the album would have benefitted from more energy and perhaps somewhat more variation as well.

If you like your music Japanese this is a good album for you, might be worth checking out also if you like power metal or symphonic metal. These guys do what they do pretty well even though I wouldn’t describe this as the most impressive album I have ever heard in my life but it could still be worth checking out and if you ask me for a favourite song it would be one of the Japanese versions because they are the best even though none of them stand out anything extra from the others. In the end that means that we have a pretty good album hear, not as exciting as their band name but still nice.
