The cover for Tangled Thoughts of Leaving’s debut album Deaden the Fields is pretty cool, and the album itself is quite amusing as well. It was originally released in 2011 and is now reissued with intention of reaching further with an international release for the first time. It is another one of Bird’s Robe Records’ reissues, and this one, like a few others, is well worth checking out as it is rather great.

It is post metal/rock, instrumental and progressive, mostly piano driven. It is well produced, varied, and with depth. The seven tracks play for long enough for it to be a double LP, so it is a fairly long album but doesn’t feel that long. Not only is it varied, it feels fresh and interesting too, an album that should appeal to those of us looking for something that stands out from the masses.

All isn’t outstanding though; sound and fresh feels make it great but maybe a more outstanding song would have added that little extra that would have made it leap from brilliant to amazing. Still, it is one of the more interesting albums I have listened to recently and it has gotten many spins in part due to me having less time to work on the reviews, but also because it has been interesting and good enough to play many, many times over.

I would recommend checking out this one, it may be a reissue that is now over a decade old, but it is still great. It still feels fresher than much of the albums I review these days, so it is definitely worth taking a look at. It is great with bands that have fresh ideas and dare to walk their own paths, I’d say it would be wise to give Deaden the Fields a spin or two, there is a good chance that you will not regret it.
