It is the fourth album by Midnight Bullet, an album they call Hostile Resistance. It has a kind of hostile-looking artwork, it looks like a riot. I wouldn’t claim that it is the best artwork I have ever seen, but neither is it the worst. The quartet claims that they tried to avoid compromises this time, and catchy riffs, things like that. They offer ten tracks and a playing time of almost forty minutes; the question is if it is forty minutes well spent or not.

It is modern metal with catchy choruses and more rough verses, a bit thrashy heavy metal structured the same way as many dual-singer extremer metal bands with clean singing the choruses but rougher otherwise. Nothing earth-shattering when it comes to style and original thinking, the quality of production is good but probably no better than most. Decent singers, but a fairly predictable album where the slight lack of variation and depth is saved by a relatively short playing time.

It is short enough for you not to grow tired with it immediately, but not varied enough for you to repeat it willingly. The catchiness of the songs makes it a very accessible album, something that is positive as I think it will appeal to some. Problem is that the album is lacking that outstanding hit song, and the memorability that can be found in the best of the genre. Another problem is the lack of fresh ideas, as it is either fresh ideas or outstanding songs I find it difficult to believe that Midnight Bullet will create much fuzz about their latest effort.

Check it out if you like the catchy chorus – harsher verse kind of metal. If you do there is a decent chance that you will find the album quite appealing, but don’t expect anything outstanding. It is good enough to enjoy for a moment, but I don’t think Hostile Resistance puts up much of a resistance against the lack of creativity in the world of metal.
