Finnish band called Midnight Bullet are back with their second album that they call Losing My Face that is referencing the fake lives people tend to live today with the fear of losing face and showing how it really is. The first album had a better title and this one doesn’t have that much of an exciting cover art either. What else to say? I don’t know much about the band and there wasn’t much of a press release accompanying it either but I have learnt that they are tighter than ever. Not that I have heard them before so I can neither confirm nor deny such a statement – but what about this album?

Well, musically it is not really that exciting in an originality point of view. It is quite heavy, a little dark and a tad dramatic. Decent production, it is modern and all yet nothing spectacular considering the possibilities today. I think it sounds quite typically Finnish, Sentenced is a band that is quite similar to this one but these guys lack the finesse of said band. There are ten tracks on the album and there isn’t and overly large variation to be found amongst these tracks and it becomes a little bit predictable towards the end of the album but the short playing time is a bit forgiving.

I think this is a decent album, these guys clearly do know how to play and how to write decent songs. The problem is though that the album never really takes off and I think it lacks the creative energy of said Sentenced but also lacks depth and originality to stand out amongst the other bands in the genre. Odds are though that if you like bands like sentenced or something half-thrashy, you will find this album quite agreeable but as a critic I am looking for more and that is something I cannot find in this album.

Still it is a fairly enjoyable thing to listen to, all the songs work okay for me even though none of them stand out in any particular way. I think that it is solid piece of work that would just need a touch more quality and a touch more originality to become really interesting. Not much more than that to say about that.
