Observations and descriptions is kind of the job for someone writing music reviews or articles in general, so Hallowed is observing and describing this newest effort by Swiss trio Honey for Petzi. It is their first album in about a decade, the debut was released back in 2001. Observations + Descriptions has simple but quite cool cover with hands held together, perhaps in some gesture of unity or something. It is an album that contains a dozen tracks, many tracks in French, a language that deserves to be heard more in the world of rock music.

It is an album that fits in the post-rock style of music with atmosphere, with decent variation, some more complex tracks, some dreamier, some humour, it is an album that covers a decent spectrum. It is well produced with good sound, the vocalist is of a good calibre and good emotional resonance. It is an album that is well put together, but that might not offer anything spectacular. There is nothing about the album that jumps out at you, nothing really noteworthy from a first glance. It is an album that requires you to give it a little time, it isn’t always instantly gratifying.

Observations + Descriptions is a good album with good songs all the way through. What I am missing is that outstanding hit song, the song that brings you to the album that makes you want to listen over and over. The track called Infini is probably the one I like the most but none of the tracks really stands out in a general perspective. I think the album lacks that little extra that makes the best albums stand out, and many times I’d rather take something from the iPod than listen to the CD when I was driving. That tells me that I am not quite impressed with this album, even though I like it a bit.

For a fan it was probably worth the wait, and it is probably an enjoyable effort. I don’t think it stands out enough to merit any higher rating, it is not bad in any way, but not exciting enough to really shine. It is a good album that thanks to a cool cover would make a fine addition to any vinyl collection. It could be worth checking out, you will probably not dislike it.
