Great cover, it looks great. It is one of those covers that could compel to buy the album on vinyl unheard, not for me though as I hardly buy any music nowadays and if I do it has to be great. Frightful is a Polish band and they release their album on a Chinese label, I am a little distrustful of everything Chinese so such a thing is always a bit of a downer. Still, I didn’t know that when I started listening to the album so it will not influence what I think about the album itself. The main question with that is whether it is as good as it looks.

It is quite classic death/thrash metal with the riffs, drums, vocal styles we usually hear within that style. There is nothing especially original about what Frightful do, their music sounds like countless other albums and bands I have heard before them. They seem to be satisfied with making something derivative without much personality, it is a bit of déjà vu. There is nothing special about the production, the variation is typical of the style, and it lacks a bit of depth and variety, so it is good that it is not longer than 43 minutes.

Spectral Creator could have been something astral, spacey and dramatic, but it is a generic typical old-school death metal album. It offers nothing new, nothing fresh, nothing exciting, if you like generic death metal it will be perfect, otherwise it is probably a big waste of time. I have let it spin for a few times and I am not very impressed. Sure, it is not a bad album, the songs are fine, but considering that the band has just derived them from other works and not given any personality to them it is hard to be impressed.

I recommend that you don’t get this one, if you are a fan of the genre it might be worth checking out. But overall, I am sure that it is an album that will not elicit many positive emotions, it is just one more death metal release to add to the countless other that already exist, and it offer absolutely nothing exciting to spice up the genre.
