Here comes something wintery to cool you down when the weather is getting warmer in the summertime. Winterage is the third album by the Italian band Frozen Crown, the debut was released in 2018 so they have been pretty diligent in the early years of the career. It is a female fronted band, and that might explain the style of the cover, like an illustration of that fact. Other than that, there isn’t that much to say. They make a fuzz about the fact that that Dragonforce’s Herman Li endorsed the band on his Twitch channel, and the usual stuff about how great they are – like all other bands.

Modern and powerful power metal is the style, female fronted power metal with some additional male vocals, even some aggressive ones. Really strong productions where power and melody work in symbiosis in an excellent way, one of the better power metal productions I have heard. It is also a quite varied album with varied compositions and a cover of one of my favourite songs by Judas Priest, a very personalised version of the song as well. Good vocals. There is lots of depth and dynamics in the sound as well, you could claim that it is an epic album.

This is a great album; I don’t think it has any flaws worth mentioning. The only slight niggle is the short track following the cover track Night Crawler, it feels somewhat like a filler track that doesn’t do anything for the whole. That is the only little negative, but it is not really important to the impression of the album that contains so many great tracks from the opener to the ending track, it is one of those albums that you want to hear more of when it ends. The desire to hear it again or hear more is always a positive, and the parade of strong songs is what gives this impression. We could mention almost all the tracks as impressive, but I especially want to mention the opener, and Far Beyond, along with Night Crawler, these are probably the ones I find most memorable on a great album.

I recommend checking out this one, especially if you like the power metal. I do however think, that this one should have wider appeal than most epic power metal as it is a bit more aggressive and powerful, I guess you could claim that it is slightly less silly. I have enjoyed this one and recommend that you do the same, Frozen crown certainly deliver the goods and it doesn’t matter if you take it on to get more wintery in the summer of get into the winter spirit in the dark cold of winter time – it is excellent any way you look at it.
