They say we want fresh metal and I couldn’t agree more, metal is often a dreary replay of what has come before, and fresh ideas are as scarce as protective gear for hospital staff. One might suspect that a band naming their new album Fresh Metal might want to shock the world with some impressive fresh ideas. They have a fresh cover artwork; it indicates some comic relief and they even did a video with drawings. It is their fourth album; we have reviewed their previous three and the rating has always been the same, I have liked the band but never thought their albums was great.

“With thrash metal, death metal and punk all put through a meat grinder, The Prophecy 23 sound as fresh as never before” says the press material and they aren’t wrong about the styles and the grinder – pretty fresh too. They have come up with fourteen songs, seven on each site of the vinyl record. It looks good as a vinyl, and the playing time is quite sensible and there is decent variation. Good production and cool vocals, pretty fresh but I wouldn’t say that it stands out enough to quench everyone’s thirst for fresh metal.

The opening track shows great love for fresh metal and is quite fresh in itself, the rest of the album isn’t quite as great though, so it starts fresh but continues a bit less fresh. But the album is good overall and there isn’t really that much to complain about, those who have enjoyed what the bad has done before will like this one as well. It isn’t as fresh as the title suggests but it can be claimed to be fairly fresh and I wouldn’t say that there is any problem with the ideas but most of the songs aren’t very memorable and it is only the first track will remain in my memory now that I am done with this review.

I think many of us what fresh metal but just titling your album that way doesn’t quite make it so, this album is solid but not spectacular and the fresh title track is quite alone in giving out fresh metal. So after this one I still want fresh metal.
