How much of an enigma is Fallen Arise’s new album? That is one of the things I wonder when I take on this third album by this band. It offers ten tracks where the most recognisable feature is the female vocals, not that they differ anything from many other similar female vocalists. They also offer some male vocals, grunty stuff for example and things like that, I honestly don’t think they offer much that we haven’t heard before.

Melodic metal or power metal with symphonic touches and female vocals, it is focused on strong melodies. The vocals are pretty good, they could have ditched the male singing as it is pretty boring and doesn’t really add anything. The production is solid, fresh and modern, but doesn’t really offer anything really new. I think that most people will agree that it feels kind of familiar and doesn’t offer much novelty or fresh ideas.

It is an album with songs that are quite easy to like and easy to take to, the opening two tracks I really like but the rest of the album doesn’t live up to what is promised in the beginning. So, besides a memorable title track, I don’t think this album offers much that we haven’t heard before or much that goes down in history. They are good craftsmen but not so brilliant artists, so while you cannot complain about the craftsmanship you can complain about the lack of fresh ideas.

If you like the melodic or female fronted kind of metal there is a good chance that you will like this album, at least I doubt that anyone getting it will be too disappointed with it. So, if you enjoy that kind of music, I think it might be a pretty good idea to check out this album. I do, however think that it could have been a little bit more enigmatic, and more memorable, but it is probably good enough to enjoy for a little while.
