The crown lies heavy in front of the guillotine on a gloomy day, the corvus coraxes are sitting around waiting for more noblemen to lay down and have their heads removed. It is the British band Godsized who bring out the heavy crown to the world; their work is available to prebook through a Pledge music campaign where you can buy their album and some other funny stuff in order to finance their work. This is their second album and it is covered in a very nice way, I know this band from earlier when I review an EP of theirs in 2010 – an EP that I actually remembered reviewing which does not always happen as many albums and EPs that are released these days are quite forgetful.

This is stylistically a step up on the EP from a few years back, the sound is very good and they have a heavy sound. Good energy and power in the album, the vocalist is a very solid rock vocalist and I think he along with their music style brings out a good groove from this album. Not as revolutionary as the cover would suggest, but if we look closer at the cover there are some graves in the background so they might have missed the revolution, hence the classically styled music. Variation over the eleven tracks is good for the genre and keeps interest up for the entire playing time that is short enough to work. I think this is a lot more solid than the EP I reviewed and one of the better productions I have heard in this genre.

I think that this is a very good album; I have enjoyed listening to it quite a bit and believe that any fan of heavy rock music will find this album very entertaining. It is easy to take to because of the fairly simplistic nature of the album but it still has enough depth to remain interesting for repeated listening. Sure, one can argue that it isn’t very original and that is a good case in point because it isn’t and those who are looking for a novel approach will have to look for it elsewhere as this isn’t it. Still, they do feel decently fresh and relevant despite not really breaking any new ground; I think that it is a fair conclusion to describe this as a very good album that should appeal to anyone who enjoys hard rock music.

All the songs on this album are good; some are better than others where I think that the opener Welcome to Hell is the top pick of the album. It is a great opening track and a great song and then we have track number seven Forgotten Friend that is another highlight on this very strong album. I think you should take a close look at this album as I think that you may find it worth it, if you visit the pledge site for this album you can buy a nice signed album and some other stuff to go with it – it may be worth the crowns you have to part with to buy it. I think Godsized should be very proud of this work as it hits very close to the bullseye.
