They are searching for zero, the Canadian Bats of Cancer, very aggressive and evil creatures that looms in groups of four and live in misty caves. This is their fifth album on the band’s tenth year. Cancer Bats isn’t a name that is very interesting to me, it is kind of ridiculous and the cover art doesn’t look very interesting either but I guess the point is about that of the eye searching for zero. Looks kind of boring to me, but it isn’t the look and the selling points that is to be reviewed here so what about the album?

Musically it is punk hardcore with lots of aggression and power. Yet it is also a quite melodic album that is fairly varied over ten tracks and 34 minutes. They offer up aggression served on a very fine plate, well produced with a sound that aggravates their mood and the songs feel like they are well crafted. The singer fits perfectly into the soundscape and I doubt that there are many productions within this genre that are better than the one we can hear on this album.

I think that this is a very good album with lots of energy and aggression; I think that they have created a quality album. Usually I am not that much into this kind music as most artists within the genre are quite dull and one-dimensional and if there is one thing these guys aren’t, it is one-dimensional. The songs are all good and strong and I think most people will find this album quite interesting and quite good; fans who likes punk and hardcore will most likely adore this album.

All tracks are good on the album, some are a little better like the opening track Satellites that sets a good tone for the rest of the album but it is also a great and enjoyable track to listen to. But I think that the fourth track is even better, Beelzebub as it is called breaks a little from the rest of the album and is a really enjoyable track. In fact the entire album is very enjoyable and it has been a good entertaining time listening to this album that shows that even bands with terrible names can come up with great music. It is an album well worth checking out.
