Ready Steady Go! That is what Dutch rocker heroes The Dirty Denims yell when they open their new album, it also happens to be the title of said album. I think their previous album make quite a bang and was really appealing, this one doesn’t have as good artwork as the previous album. But it has eleven tracks that are sure to rock you quite a lot – they claim to be something like Joan Jett meets AC/DC, not a too bad description, I think.

Classic hard rock with female vocals, good pace, good energy and grit. This is music that works perfectly in front of a crowd if performed by a band with charisma, something these guys probably do. Trouble is that the live stage is quite dead these days, and the question is how much we want to crowd together when societies open up again – but this is music for the stage. The songs are quite simplistic and easy to get into, the production good, the same can be said about the vocals. The variation pretty much as expected, if you have heard the predecessor you will not be surprised as this one is pretty much the same.

I think that Back With a Bang that I reviewed a few years back was better than this one, it had more outstanding songs and just grabbed the attention more. This one isn’t far between, but I like novelty and hearing stuff I haven’t heard before, repeat stuff tend to feel much less exciting. That is often the problem with going down the retro route, there is a risk that our new album feels old and done before it is even released. Now, this album isn’t old, or boring, or uninteresting, or anything like that, it just doesn’t stand up in competition with its predecessor, it is still a good album that is easy to like.

If you liked the previous album you will like this one, it isn’t as good in my view but it is good with strong tracks like the title track and Thunder From Down Under to name a pair. It is an appealing album that should keep the fans listening and perhaps even find some new fans who enjoys the old-school stuff. Ready Steady Go! Is good but the predecessor is a better choice, it comes with more of a bang.
