Germany’s Vendetta are back with their fifth album, aptly titled The 5th. It has a much better artwork than its predecessor that was released about half a decade ago, but it is not really a better album for the band that started life back in the eighties. Their debut was released in 1987 and their second album in 1988 then it was a long while before their third album that came in 2007 and their fourth in 2011 and now we have album number five in 2017. So what about this album then?

Thrash metal is what it is, inspired and copied from the big names but perhaps with lower tempo and without the dynamics of the best bands. Okay production but there is nothing ear catching about this album, as it could have been more varied and their thrash metal could have threaded less threaded paths rather than using the classic heavy riffs and hoarse vocals. Good thing it is short then, just under 40 minutes is wise for an album that isn’t particularly dynamic or varied.

I am not really impressed by what I hear when I listen to this album, it doesn’t convey anything to me. The songs feel uninspired and dull; I think the band needs more tempo and power in their songs if they want to impress their listener with what they are coming up with. The problem is that it takes much longer to write this review than listening ten times or so on the album as I cannot really figure out anything to write about it – it just doesn’t do anything for me. I don’t really think it is an album that will do much for anyone; there are just so many more interesting thrash metal albums out there.

It may not be a bad album but a rather uninteresting one and I can really just copy what I wrote about half a decade ago when I reviewed their previous album: “Uninspiring and ordinary thrash metal in an okay album, that is in short what it is all about with this fourth Vendetta album.” It should be fifth this time but the rest is the same, not the highlight of the year so far.
