Finnish band Wrathrone seem to have been born beneath something or maybe their first album was. This is the debut album of the quintet and it offers an exciting artwork, I also think that their logo is cryptic enough not to reveal the genre the band belongs to. I can reveal that they do belong in the death metal genre and that they have done two EPs that they released themselves and they have done several death metal shows amongst others in the Baltic states as well as Germany.

Their style is traditional death metal with a vocalist that is a make or break point I suppose as he has a special way of singing but is in general still a fairly traditional death metal vocalist with some annoying undertones. They have some interesting instrumental parts that differ slightly from the norm but in all intents and purposes it is a typical old-school brutal death metal with no real novelty. One cannot be overly impressed with their fresh thinking but at least they keep it short even though they do not vary their album very much.

It is a decent death metal album; at the same time it is boring as hell. I frown at the lack of ideas and lack of desire for a more novel approach. Maybe the cowardly approach is down to the fact that it is their first album and they don’t want to alienate any fans of the genre, and they might possibly succeed with that but when you hear as many albums as I do, and especially when you listen to them many times it is hard to be anything but bored with one more brutal death metal album even if the singer is somewhat different but not different enough and certainly not good enough to make it interesting.

In the end I like no songs on the album, but there are some great solos that I really enjoy – but that is far from enough to make this interesting. It is not bad and it will probably appeal to fans of this particular genre, personally I will stay away from this album as I just think it lacks anything interesting.
