They call themselves Divinity and they hail from the cold nation of Canada. This is their new effort, the second part of the story of The Immortalist that will eventually be released as an album but until then they will release their songs as digital EPs in three parts and this is as stated before, their second part in this effort. It is a cool way to release an album, making good use of technology to release music in short intervals and then have an interesting limited edition album to crown it all. So what about this second part in this story?

Death metal of the progressive kind is what it is all about, aggressive, yet melodic with growls and clean singing – and variation. It is a very strong production, it has depth and is very nicely layered throughout. It is an EP that has much to offer, especially if you like death metal of the progressive kind. I think the vocals are strong and the EP will probably keep you entertained all the way through as it is not longer than 24 minutes on four tracks – I do however hold a slight reservation over an album if this is a representable chapter as it would mean that the album will be very long and that could mean that it could feel either very long or fragmented. However, I will wait until that album sees the light of day before commenting on its merits and shortcomings.

This EP is really good, all the tracks are of a high calibre and they are really entertaining – you could claim that the series is gaining momentum with this EP that is the second chapter in this story. I like this one, all the songs are great and I can’t really see any weaknesses with it. They have done something really good with this EP and I can recommend it to you who read this webzine, maybe with some slight reservation for those who prefer things like AOR and those things, it may be too heavy for you. This is a really strong effort.

I don’t think that any of the tracks really stand out in any direction and I think that the EP works best as a whole rather than as a collection of hit songs. With its depth and dimensions it has good longevity as well, it is a very good EP that you can enjoy several times in a row. I think Divinity is a name to remember and their new EP called Momentum is great.
