What better album to review on the international women’s day than one from a band called Hot Mama, a band fronted by a woman? I think it feels appropriate to review such an album today; it is their second album that they have given the name Re-Earth. It looks kind of science fiction-like with mamas giving birth to something strange, maybe to some exciting music.

Melodic metal with progressive undertones and a female vocalist, sometimes fairly catchy and very melodic all the way through the album that plays for about 50 minutes on a dozen tracks. The production is also very strong and the female vocalist is very good, I think she has a very impressive voice, at least for this kind of music. An album that is fairly easy to take in due to the fairly catchy nature of it. I would describe it as a very solid production from a quite good band – this German quartet has a lot going for it.

It is a good album from a band of solid musicians, you take to it easily but in the end it lacks a bit of dynamics and it is a bit too easy to grow a bit tired of. It feels like they are a bit too cautious and don’t quite go all the way with their music which makes the album lacking a little bit in depth and that would of course effect the longevity of the album. I think that this lack of depth and careful approach is making the album slightly less exciting than it could have been. I think though that the band are still good, they have some great songs and many things going for them.

Of the dozen tracks we have on the album there are two that stand out a little bit extra and that is the third track Let it Die along with the second to last track Alive which are both great tracks crowning a fairly good album. Maybe this hot mama won’t go down in history but what better album to review on the international woman’s day? It has the right name and vocalist for that, I like this album but I doubt it will last too long considering that it is lacking depth but at the same time I think you will not be disappointed if you get the album.
