In a world of tombs the horned man is almighty, guess the ones in the tombs are predominantly plague sufferers if one is to trust the artwork. An artwork that does not look interesting, not in the least. The band in Danish and this is their fifth album since the band’s inception in 2004. They say that it is the most important release in the band’s career, and names like Autopsy, Celtic Frost and that sort of thing is thrown around in the press information. As is impressions like brutality, captivating sound and those things. And of course the elephant in the room, the past albums have been critically acclaimed. You have no idea how much I read those things, it is strange that every band has a history of critically acclaimed albums. What does that say about the reviewers? They are not critics, that’s for sure. So before I loose attention to the album, lets look at what it offers and if there is any substance to the claims.

Brutally aggressive extreme metal, shouty, growly vocals, aggressive riffs, smattering drums and all that. Maybe some kind of brutal death/thrash metal is what it is. It is not very varied, that’s for sure and the vocals are not very good. The production is what can be expected from a brutal extreme album of today, kind of hardcorish or something along those lines. Nothing inventive. Short and to the point is what it is, less than 40 minutes of playing time is moderate enough. I would claim that if you are looking for something fresh and new in the modern brutal extreme metal, this is not it.

It is not even that good an album, it is too much middle of the road. Too much of the names already mentioned in this review. The most important release they say, did they play it too safe? I wonder what the earlier stuff sounded like considering the importance they have put into this album that doesn’t sound of anything exciting. Which is too bad considering how many great extreme metal bands they have in Denmark but I guess there has to be an exception to confirm the rule and this is it. Not that the album in itself is that band, you can listen to it, you doesn’t vomit from the sound of it and it is all in all fairly okay albeit not really good. I think it sounds like one of those albums you just have to disregard, unless you like this band or the names I have mentioned in this review.

Nothing on the album stands out, there is no highlight and in the end I feel like the experience of listening to this album hasn’t given me anything whatsoever. It is an album for the fans but it is much too middle of the road to really inspire and excite. So for all of you down there in the tombs, this album belongs there with you.
