That is one ugly cover art, it may be one of the worst ever. Sort of stupidity personified in a record cover. It is spanish band Avulsed that offer this one, it is a reissue of an EP released way back in 1994. Too bad I did not know that beforehand because it would have spared me the pain of reviewing it, allowing me to focus on something more recent. I guess that shows how much I know about Avulsed, but this was their debut EP that originally had three tracks and then it was reissued the year after with more tracks, lots of bonus live tracks. Funny thing is that they more than doubled the number of tracks and playing time from the original version to this extended version that is of album length. But is it a twenty-year-old worth celebrating.

Well, they say that if you aren’t into Avulsed, you aren’t into death metal. Funny that, I am not into Avulsed and not that much into death metal so that may be correct but if you ask my brother I would think that he is of a slightly different opinion. It is old-school with all it entails a deep guttural voice who wants to sound like something from Hell (a small Norwegian town for those who didn’t know what Hell was), smattering drums and sterile guitars. The production is typical of the nineties death metal, quite poor sound and not that powerful. The live tracks are ridiculously poorly produced and sounds horrific, and that is not in a good way. Variation is nonexistent meaning that the playing time is very long with 52 minutes, 34 minutes of them is the live tracks.

This is awful, more or less every album I have reviewed for Hallowed is better. The singer sounds fairly evil but the music itself is bad, the EPs original tracks are poor enough to dismiss the album but when looking at the live tracks. Looking at those I find myself thinking: is this a joke? you cannot help laughing at the sheer ridiculousness of the thing, the vocals sounds like the quacking of ducks and the instruments is almost inaudible. It sounds silly, actually it sounds embarrassing, fortunately no one but me heard it when I was listening to it.

I feel embarrassed on the band’s behalf, had I ever done something like this I would try to hide it as far from sight as possible because this is really terrible. I cannot see how anyone would think this is worth spending time and money on. A complete waste of my time, that’s a pair of hours I will never get back.
