It has been 31 years since last time SDI released an album, now they are doing it again and it is called 80s Metal Band. It is said that the band want to transport the listener 30 years back in time, so they call their new album 80s Metal Band and want to transport the listener to 1990. Does that mean that they cannot count or that they don’t understand the difference between 80 and 90? Fortunately, you do not need to be intelligent to record and write music, and they do write 80s kind of metal. Strange though that they don’t release it on vinyl, but it may be fortunate that it comes only on CD because the cover looks pretty terrible.

Generic eighties metal following the standard formats, but with a slightly more modern production. It raises the question, why make generic eighties metal? Wasn’t enough of that done already in the eighties? Of course it could be a point to make cliché stuff and spice it with humour and that sort of thing, but the crude attempts by SDI can hardly be described as humorous. Add to that, the playing time that feels quite long as well. There isn’t much fresh stuff going on here, nothing at all to be exact and I wouldn’t claim that it is a good album in any sense of the way.

I think no one remembers their 1989 release today and I doubt anyone will remember this album, it is a very forgettable release and it isn’t impressive at all. Sure, it is catchy and rich with clichés that many fans of eighties metal seem to like, so perhaps it may appeal to those. However, I doubt it will have any wider appeal and most who hear it will forget it rather quickly. And I tend to find myself wondering why albums such as this one is being released, hasn’t there been enough already? Isn’t it a waste of resources to release albums that no one should really objectively want in physical formats? Isn’t there a limited supply of materials on this planet? Why waste that on items that serves no purpose.

You may think that I am a bit hard on them and perhaps I am, there music is okay and might as well be used as background noise. The problem is that this is true for countless albums and countless more see the light of day every year, I’d rather see terrible or terrific album than indifferent ones like this.
