Canadian metallers Iron Kingdom are on the hunt, but on the hunt for what? A good album? Originality? Perhaps a moose? For most stuff I can think of, the hunt is pretty much a failure. They should probably have been going hunting for a more exciting cover, but they have found nine tracks to fill the album that is the fourth in the discography. The first album was released in 2011 and the latest in 2015.

I guess that the “Iron” is kind of a giveaway, they perform exactly the kind of music that you can imagine from a band that starts with an Iron. Classic heavy metal that presses all the right buttons for the genre, it is fairly catchy with some power chords and stuff like that. The singer is pretty typical of the genre, neither better, nor worse than what we usually hear. That can also be said about the production that is fairly typical of the genre, they don’t really do anything that stands out.

Do they want us to go out on a hunt for this album that is most likely just going to drown in the mainstream of the heavy metal genre. When the most positive aspect of an album is that the playing time isn’t too long it is hard to be really positive about it, the opening track White Wolf is pretty good but after that it is quite dull and generic. Heavy metal fans like generic so they might appeal to some of those but if you like the more novel approach it is not an album for you.

If they were on the hunt for greatness they kind of failed, they didn’t find any original sound or a great one. They probably please the flock that they are preaching for, but for the rest of us there are better choices. Archetypical heavy metal isn’t what I am hunting for when I look for new stuff to enjoy, but if it is for you this could be a decent choice.
