Could you really be negative towards something that is called Scooby-Doo punk by some? I am not so sure about that. Scabby Ghouls from some forgotten place in the part of the world called USA release their debut album that could be construed as some kind of cereal if you look at the cover. East some scabby ghouls and get all the vitamins you need, that seems to be what they are offering. Seven tracks is what they give and some might call it an EP but why not a very short album? So lets see what the quartet has to offer, is it any good.

Well, it is punkish rock music with horror themes, female fronted and energetic. They are probably inspired by the likes of Misfits and such things, the themes are inspired by horror films and such things and spiced up with humour and some clever touches. Good variation, especially for a band that is of the punk genre. And it is also simple enough but still with enough depth so that you can play many times and not grow tired with what you are hearing. I also have to say that vocalist Denise Hazard sings quite excellently for this album; her voice and vocal style fits perfectly.

And it is a really strong album with great songs, energy and ghoulishness. It starts really well with Body Surfin’ where we meet a shark and everything but I think that the title track is the best one – it is quite excellent. In fact, the album is really strong and I think that anyone even remotely into the punk rock should check it out, especially those with a sense of humour. I really like it that they don’t take themselves too seriously, I wish that more hard rock, metal, and punk rock was made like that, with less seriousness and more daring to fail and to do something a bit outside the box. So grab a spoonful of ghouls, lean back and enjoy this album displaying some enjoyable scenery on the screen.

This is a recommended album, I have really enjoyed listening to this album that presses the right buttons and does what they do really well. An excellent debut and I cannot wait for more enjoyable tracks from these scabby Americans. Great stuff!
