mighty music

Swedish rockers JD Miller comes up with a new album called Afterglow that follows the great album World War X that was highly regarded by us here at Hallowed, it was actually on the top ten list of 2017. It is their third album and it certainly looks good and visually interprets how one could think of the band that according to the press material is the heaviest AOR band – they may not be wrong. The band itself started back in 2011 and released the first album in 2014 and now five years after the debut they come up with this Afterglow and it is a glowing album.

Musically it is melodic hardrock, energetic, powerful and very melodic. It is a really well-produced album with strong spund and excellent vocals, plenty of catchy choruses. Afterglow can be considered a rather logical successor to World War X, it is a step up compared with the predecessor, the depth and variation for example makes it feel like it is as long as World War X but when I check I notice that this album is actually about ten minutes longer and has a playing time that is close to fifty minutes. It is rather fresh with strong sound, good depth and a sound that is very dynamic with a great balance between the heavy and the melodic that really works.

Afterglow is a great album, it shows a band that takes steps forward and who manages to make fresh music despite not really coming up with anything particularly original. The songs are all great and none of them is a fantastic standout track but the opener deserves to be mentioned for setting a great tone for the album that keeps delivering the goods all the way to the end. I would say that it is an album that is quite close to an even higher rating, and I can say that if you liked World War X you will really enjoy this album.

A very enjoyable album that feels well worth giving some of your minutes, the tracks are all great and I would say that there are not really any weaknesses to be heard on this album. I think you should have a closer look at this album; it is a very enjoyable release that would be stupid to miss if you enjoy the AOR or melodic hard rock music. You should not miss this great sequel to World War X as it is a really strong album, one of the best melodic hard rocking albums I have listened to this year.
