Japanese band Crossfaith are crossbreeding all kinds of stuff into their music, and we have already written about them in 2018, their EP Wipeot was fairly favourably reviewed. Now comes their newest album called Ex Machina, a title that isn’t very exciting but the good thing is that the cover is a lot more exciting than the title and I wonder how many times the title of the opening song Deus Ex Machina has been used. I will not tell you what it means as you ought to know that already. But what about the latest effort by Crossfaith, I know that the song Wipeout is good but what about the rest of them?

A strongly produced album that is hard to stylistically define is one way to start describing the music of Ex Machina, I have seen several descriptions and genre names for this album and this band. Electronicore is probably my favourite although it doesn’t really say that much. The style of Crossfaith is probably best described as metalcore with elements of electronica and dance music and some other touches as well. Kind of an interesting sound from a creative standpoint, and the thirteen tracks are kept relatively short with a 46-minute playing time and while it may not be the most varied album it has depth and variation enough to keep the listener listening for the entire playing time.

Powerful stuff, and good stuff with some excellent songs like Wipeout and Freedom. But there are some songs that are not as good as well, and I also think that the vocalist is a bit up and down, he is great at times but not as great at other times. Overall though I think this is both an interesting and good album that will appeal a lot to the band’s fans. And I believe they will appeal to many other music fans as well, especially those into the metalcore kind of music.

So, it is an album worth checking out with decent songs and some great songs, a great musical moment for the band’s fans and I doubt that many of the buyers will be disappointed, I know I wouldn’t mind having this album amongst my vinyl records. It may not be the most memorable album of the year but I like it and I think it could be worth checking out.
