Lucifer’s Fall is an Australian doom metal band who have a catchphrase that is “fuck you we’re Lucifer’s Fall” showing that they are rather pubertal. And the fact that they are said to worship classic raw doom metal hardly makes for an interesting way into this album, the artwork isn’t that exciting either. So what can I write about their second album that is called II: Cursed & Damned?

I can say that it is traditional doom metal that sounds like in the olden days, they have borrowed heavily from the classic doom metal bands and their music don’t really feel like anything breaking new ground. Slow and doomy with a production that sounds more like something of the eighties than something of today. Doom metal fans will probably like this a lot as it sounds like anything else and there are no surprises, surprises is not for the doom metal fan. And I should warn you that the album feels quite long as well with a playing time of 56 minutes.

I would call this a rather good album, with decent songs but it is also an album that sounds more or less like anything else. They sound like the three similar bands I have listed and like some million other bands and have you heard any of them it is hard to claim any novelty from this one. I would claim that it is for collectors of the genre, those who fear change and wants every new album to sound like the ones that came before it. The rest does not really need to bother much with this album as you probably have an album that sounds more or less the same as this one already.

So if you are a doom metal guy I think you should have a look at this, it sounds like it always does so if you like that you can’t go wrong with this album. I just don’t think it is good or original enough to really make an impression.
