lions pride music

A Greek rose growing in the wild, looking for attention and to be picked up by fans. Unsurprisingly this is their fourth album, that they cleverly have titled 4 just like another band’s album that has a look that reminds me of this one – guess it is an inspiration considering how this band sounds. I reviewed their second album Dangerous some time ago and it was dangerously devoid of personality, but this one comes with reassuring words from some nameless reviewers – it is supposed to be bigger and better than their earlier stuff, I certainly hope so.

Musically they cannot be confused with a band that makes original music, once AOR/Melodic Rock music was original but most that comes today is just clones of those original bands of the past. They build around catchy choruses and distinctive melodies; they have a fairly typical vocalist and excellent production – no surprises there. These bands makes it very difficult to come up with something to write, I hate repeating myself but what can I do when the music keeps repeating? This is the same album with a different band name and a different title, 41 minutes of the same songs that we have heard many times before.

Really well made, a solid effort. What more can I say? Good album but also really creatively uninteresting, but a very strong production. It is one of those albums that is too good to be bad but also too bad too be really good – a solid AOR-production. One that most likely will fall into favour and be one of the several hundred top ten of the year album for many internet reviewers and really liked by many fans. They probably accomplish what they hope for; many fans will enjoy their music. Honestly though, I find it very difficult to be impressed by one more copy-paste album – it may be good but it is almost as forgettable as it is good.

Ten good songs, solid songs make up this album – this very solid album that I enjoyed while I heard it and forgot when it ended. It will probably please the fans, an easy album to pass judgement on: if you like AOR and originality isn’t your cup of tea, then you have a great album for you here. As a critic I have to look at it somewhat differently though, they are just not great or fantastic enough to rise out of the mainstream so it is good but also a little bit forgettable.
