witches brew

They claim to be on the verge of dysfunction, this German old-school blackish thrash metal band who release a new EP in a limited number, 700 CDs and 300 Vinyl LPs. I am not entirely sure that they will sell all those 1000 physical EPs as their music feels aimed at a pretty slim audience. They make their music for those still living in the past, thinking that the more raw thrash metal music was better in the early eighties.

It is pretty rough, old-school production and I would describe this as an underground release in terms of style and sound. They have an appealing distinctness and roughness, as well as speed. Rough vocalist who kind of reminds me of the singer from Destruction, he isn’t too shabby to be honest. The EP itself is fairly appealing but as fast as you take to it, equally fast you loose your interest in it.

You cannot really claim that these guys break new ground in their musical endeavours, but somehow I doubt that they try that. They target a crowd of fans who think the world and the world of music should never change and just stick to what has been tried and tested. It can be appealing with band doing these things but most of the time I find myself loosing interest rather fast and that goes for these guys as well, not because they are bad but because they aren’t good enough.

It goes like this: if you like the cover art and the band name you will like the album, and you are in a minority. Most of us will find the harshness and speed appealing but still find the album as a whole to be pretty ordinary.
