Welcome to the slaughterhouse is the first thing said on this album but before you suspect that it is a silly death metal album adorned in pentagrams and upside down crosses I advice you to look at the artwork. That would help you understand that the Finns are all about power metal. Symphonic power metal to be more precise, and it is their first album under the Silver Bullet Moniker. Before they were called Dirge Eternal but they are probably seeking to kill some werewolves and gain a strong following in the werewolf plagued parts of the world.

They offer classic power metal with some falsetto vocals, some choirs, some symphonic elements, some catchiness, more or less what you expect from a power metal album. And would you be surprised if I mentioned that you get the songs you can expect from looking at the artwork, logo and name? I wouldn’t be because that is what you get. It is a rather predictable album, which is a bit of a shame and a weakness for the album that ends up taking the simple tried and tested path rather than threading their own way in uncharted territory.

While on the subject of things a little less agreeable I would add the vocalist to that. The track called Tormentor kind of illustrates my point. But while the vocalist isn’t top-notch and the album is quite predictable I would still describe it as a rather good album. I think they are around the genre average, perhaps the upper range of that average – meaning that I don’t doubt that people who discover them will like them but that they are a bit too anonymous to be discovered by a larger audience.

I think these guys have great potential but as I stated before they need to find their own path to stand out in this overcrowded genre. They are a bit on their way, I like the opener Slaughterhouse and all the tracks are rather good so it is a decent album to look at while waiting for something more exciting. That means that they will no be shot with a silver bullet and taken to the slaughterhouse.

HHHHHHH
