A band called Rimfrost from Sweden; rime is what their name and the title of their third album means if you translate the Swedish word to the English language. Their new album has a boring front; black with only the logo on it. Maybe they are mourning the fact that rime might soon be a thing of the past, the cold darkness of eternal winter may not be a thing we know soon. Maybe they should have called themselves runayway greenhouse effect or something scary like that instead. But what about their music? Is it worth listening to?

The label speak of “…a variety of styles within the genres of Black and Death Metal, and delivers a refined Blend of Dark Melodies, Crushing Riffs, Technical Percussion, Dramatic Keys and Poetic Story telling…” what a load of bullshit is what I think when I read that. Kind of typical metal riffs with growly vocals, and that’s about it. Not really an album that impress me in any way from a creative standpoint. And the album is long and not particularly varied, so it is one that doesn’t really stand out that much.

Neither is it a good album, it isn’t really bad either just an album that doesn’t evoke any kind of emotional response from me. It just plays along with song after song and then when it ends I forget it just as quickly as I forget anything else that I don’t deem worth bothering with. I think it is one of the blandest albums I have ever heard so I wouldn’t really recommend it.

All the tracks are quite the same and in the end I think that the only way that someone would enjoy this album is if that one enjoys bland extreme metal, and that of course means that they will have many fans even though the widest variety of music fans will find this album quite pointless.
