The age-old question has always been: can you really combine industrial metal, extreme metal and disco? A band called Furiam decided that you can and proves that it is possible to do it really well. Their self titled debut shows some excellent hit potential and should see many music fans fall for their catchy and easily accessible mixture of death metal/industrial metal, some gothic touches and a lot of disco style of music. I know I sort of did.

Nice cover artwork of this album, the debut of a band that begun on a dark night. It begun in a very dark room where even the light is too frightened to enter and it was there the dark activities that eventually led to Furiam took place. The sextet paints an interesting story about their background on their website, but the musical story they tell through their album isn’t anything less interesting.

I like how they combine styles so successfully, it really works and their easy to take in disco-metal is really enjoyable. Great production and decent singers are other reflections I have when I listen to this album; there are several potential hit songs in the track list of this rather short album. Thankfully it is short as the album would loose its appeal rather fast thanks to the rather repetitive nature of the songs, the backside of catchiness is often a small lack of depth that I think we notice in this album.

Their disco additions makes their music sort of stand out but they are still rather rooted in the traditional, they could have cut themselves a bit more loose and a dare even more musically – that would have been something. Still, this is a great album and I am sure it will win them many fans, as a great album like this deserves. Definitely something worth checking out.
