Always evolve, always excel – is said to be a motto for this Mexican quartet. That sounds fine you should always evolve and excel in your craft, especially if your craft is something in the arts department. Unsean is the fourth effort by the Mexicans and it is blue, which is actually the most distinguishing trait of this album as it looks quite interesting and the music doesn’t really get to me.

They fit in what is commonly described as progressive metal, a bit of djent and math metal, metalcore influences and that sort of thing. Kind of the modern progressive thing, they are not that different from many other bands I have heard and what they have on offer isn’t exactly and example of a band that is excelling. But with a strong production and a good vocalist as well as presenting music in a genre that is slightly less done to death than many others they will probably find something of a following despite not really making standout music.

I have listened to this EP many times but it doesn’t really catch my interest and I am always finding my mind drifting away from the music and onto other things like the upcoming ice hockey season, formula 1 and many other things. I can’t help but feeling that the progressive term on music is usually wrong and that this particular EP feels long despite having a rather short playing time. And in the end I feel like I don’t really know this EP despite having played through it more than a dozen times, neither good nor bad I would say.

In the end I honestly don’t have much to say about this EP other than that it has an attractive artwork, some good ideas and an attractive sound. The songs are quite anonymous and offer nothing that stands out in any sense of the way. I would say that they do excel at being absolutely average.
