Today is the national day of Norway, so what better band to review than a Norwegian band? I can’t think of any. I got this one in a letter from a lady called Kirsten who was nice enough to send a personal letter along with the record – how jolly nice of her. This is their third album they have given the title Evig Natt just like the band and it has an old house on the front, maybe it is their rehearsal place considering the dark mood they seem to be offering. So what about the album then? Is it worth critical acclaim?

I would describe it as something of a gothic album, dark moods, mainly female vocals spiced up with some grumpy male vocals. It is a pretty cool harmony between the make and female vocals, strong production and variation. The tempo isn’t that high which makes the mood of the album somewhat dark, something I would describe as a very suitable soundscape for an album of this kind. The album is also short enough and varied enough to keep the listener from being tired of it before the end, and there is enough depth for the album to have longevity. It is a well-balanced quality production and it has the added benefit of not sounding like everything else that is usually released these days.

Their work on the production is certainly more than adequate and their song-writing is also really good and that of course makes this a great album, one that is certainly well worth listening to. And when you have listened to it once, it can be worth listening to again immediately after. An album I find well worth checking out, which is why I recommend that you have a look at it. And with that I mean that you should not only look at the cover but listening to what is inside the cover.

I would say that this album has no particular weaknesses, all the songs are very strong and impressive but I think the one called Svartsinn is the highlight of the album. That song is one of two where they sing in Norwegian, that is a very nice touch and a very good variation from the English stuff we usually hear and a good thing with Norwegian is that most people understand it as well. Evig Natt is certainly an album well worth checking out, I really like this one quite a lot.
