season of mist

French rockers Drenalize are out with their first offering, an album called Destination Everywhere. That is one hell of a destination, that much is certain. And that destination is arrived at by muscle car, a bit cliché I seem to think when looking at the artwork, which I find rather uninteresting. Although the speed they are arriving at the destination might be rather fast and I like a high-speed drive. Although, I have to admit that not much of this album looked appealing from the cover art and so on.

And musically it is more or less what one can expect from the look of the album, arena rock with catchy sing-along choruses and that sort of thing. Stylistically they are not particularly interesting and seem to be looking to please the crowd that believes things were better in the past, they are musically living in the past although with the production of present time. The sound is very good, nice and clean, catchy and well balanced. Good singer. They are also short and to the point although they could both use a little more depth and individual flair.

They are probably up the right alley for those who are living in the past, thinking that everything was better back in the day – the day that never really was. For me they offer a short while of musical entertainment but nothing really memorable and I do think that I will forget them pretty quickly. Good for driving and so on, they work best when you are not really listening that carefully, when they are played but your attention is focused on something else. They do what they do well but they really need to find a voice that is more of an own voice.

The songs are all pretty good, the third track that is the title track is really good and might be a memorable track even. But overall it is an album that is really well made but doesn’t really stand out – and it is bound to be forgotten, but I don’t doubt that they have the potential to be really good. Having a good sound and decent songs is one thing but originality and an own voice is what they need to find to really get noticed.
