What the hell is djent metal, and progressive djent metal at that? Well apparently it is a genre, at least according to Wikipedia and we all know how reliable that source is. Bands like TesseracT, Meshuggah and more are said to be part of this genre. Why not just call it modern melodic metal? Because as I see it that is quite a good description of what we are getting when we are listening to this album, add to that those complex time signature and elements that are usually present around bands that are called progressive. And finalise the concoction with some growly vocals and some clean vocals and you have what this sounds like.

Quite melodic and robust, almost a bit German in the fact that it is very organised and solid but it might be a little cautious. I think that one good thing is that they don’t make long masturbatory songs as many bands with a progressive label on their music do. They could however use more variation and some catchier tunes just to peak the interest of the listener. I think they play it a little too safe and they really could do without the growled vocals as they don’t really add much to the album as a whole.

They are relatively fresh in terms of style and they are competent musicians and this album has a very strong production – if only they had done more with the song writing. Italians that make music in a style that reminds me of German products, good quality, well made but not really that exciting – like their cars to name just one thing, perhaps that is why this is released on a German label. Don’t get me wrong now, I think that this album is rather good, the songs work and everything and I am quite sure very few will really dislike this album, the problem is that it isn’t very memorable hence a middle of the scale rating.

And none of the songs stand out either, they are all good but the songs are rather similar and the album kind of gets forgotten fairly soon after it has ended. The artwork looks better than it sounds, and in the end I think we can say that this album feels a whole lot more like a Volkswagen than a Ferrari if we use cars as a parable.
