Andromeda Zoo, that is a pretty strange place to go for watching caged animals, it would mean a really long journey that much is certain. But Andromeda Zoo is also the name of a German rock trio who are releasing their debut album with this self-titled release. A release that has the trio’s faces on the cover, too bad they only took musical inspiration from past greats and not the artwork concepts. I am no saying that the band is an ugly bunch but it is always cooler with a snappy artwork than a photograph of a band or a person.

It is a short seven-track album playing for only 33 minutes, and those 33 minutes offers energetic and catchy hard rock music. It is straight to the point and varied enough to probably keep it interesting through the entire playing time. The production is pretty good and they feel very much inspired by classic hard rock music, fans of that kind of music will most likely find this album very appealing. One should point out though that it isn’t exactly the most novel musical approach I have ever heard but it is straight to the point and simple to take to and like something that is probably also down to the familiarity of the music that they do.

I like this album, music that is straight to the point has much appeal and this album is quite appealing. The singer is pretty decent and the songs are good, I would even describe a few of them as pretty strong hit songs. Sure, I have reservations; especially because of the lack of novelty, something that makes this album easy to grow a little bit tired of – the sensation that you have heard it before is never particularly positive. But besides that I would say that this is a really solid effort, a rather enjoyable album I would say. I would describe this as a rather strong debut.

I was alluding to the hit songs and there are some that I think fits that description, the opening track Starlight is a great opener and sets a good tone for the album. I also think that the third track Blood From a Stone is another highlight of this album. The other five tracks are solid as well, it is an entertaining album and if you like rock music that is more straight to the point I would suggest you look closer at it. They should be commended for this very solid debut.
