Wardens of the West Winds is what Wind Rose is looking closer at with their new, second album which has a very typical power metal cover artwork remnant of many of their Italian colleagues. I did not like their latest album particularly much, it was fairly good but didn’t really bring us anything but typical power metal which is a genre I have heard a lot during my time. But this new album has been well received by the few that has reviewed it so far, one claimed that will be one of his top five albums when 2015 is being summarised several months from now, something that particular reviewer says about most of the albums he reviews. But other reviews have also been positive about these guys claiming many things that I do not agree with.

It is typical power metal, no fresh and exciting ideas in this album. The sound is typical epic power metal with that kind of sound, choirs, symphonic elements and that stuff. The sound is typical of the genre and they thread carefully on paths cleared long before their band was invented, it is a careful approach. Like they are worried that they will alienate fans if they go down a more individual route. Not much in terms of variation and the over fifty minute long album is feeling like a very long album and one you rather wait for to end than play again. Overall it is a fairly genre-typical album, nothing that stands out in any regard.

A decent album overall and probably one that the power metal fans will be very lyrical about, it presses their buttons and they do all the tricks in the book. For a more seasoned music fan it is something we have heard before, lots of time, done by countless bands even more countless times and it tends to be a bit tedious at times, especially when not done perfectly. This band does it well but nowhere near perfectly, so once again I am not overly impressed by what I am hearing from these guys, they need a lot fresher thinking to impress me.

No song stand out particularly much for me, Skull and Crossbones is the track that is closest, not a fantastic song but at least it stands out from the overall average power metal songs. It is not a bad album but neither is it very good so it is one that comes and goes without really making much of an impression on me. I doubt that they will be top-100 when I am to summarize 2015 as it is an album that is easily forgotten by anyone who is not very easily impressed and hears very few albums. Wind Rose just flies away with the wind and the wardens have no chance of keeping it anywhere near my interest.
