Veld is a band from Belarus, a band who is said to have many redeeming features for the one who enjoys technical death metal – or so they say with they being the label and not some unidentified conspirators working for the government. It is a demonic thing with lethal things, technical things and stuff. According to the short press release it seems like Polish bands is a strong influence but also a band like Nile and whatever else there is that sounds like that. The cover art does not look very inspiring for anyone who is into more melodic and more creative original music.

Musically it is technical death metal, heavy finger damaging riffs, aggressive drumming, evil brutal vocals and such things. Not particularly original and it sounds kind of like any technical death metal, brutal, heavy, not very varied and not very original. The vocals are typical of the genre, but there is a little sequence of female vocals to spice it up a little bit, the production is more or less what you can expect from the genre – not the best I have heard but not the worst either. I think overall it is a fairly typical death metal album, no surprises and no new ideas. It is a fairly long album and paired with a sparse variety it tends to be a bit difficult to maintain interest for the entire duration.

I would describe this album as not particularly good, not particularly interesting and I have a hard time seeing any peal public validity to it. It is probably okay for a death metal album but death metal is not the main interest of our readers and it is often (but far from always) a pretty drab genre that doesn’t really grab my interest much. I think the lack of fresh thinking, the stereotypical songs and structures and the general unoriginality dampens my interest for this album and does so quite a lot.

There are no standout tracks and to me Veld does not really press any buttons other than the ones that appeals to those who likes everything death metal so if you are one of them you’ll probably find this agreeable but you probably still have to admit that it is probably just an album that will end up getting very little playing time. So, in the end I think we can conclude that this is an album that may appeal to fans of the genre but for a reviewer it is not original enough or good enough to appeal.
