Finns of To/Die/For are back with a new album, the quintet’s seventh album. It has the look of a book, looking really exciting in fact. The album is called Cult and has eight tracks to show off with, it follows the 2012 issue Samsara, an album that was a bit up and down with some brilliance combine with some pretty poor stuff. With three years more experience they will probably manage to make something a bit more exciting, at least one can hope so as there just have to be something really exciting inside that brilliant album cover artwork. So, let us open the book and look at what’s on the pages inside.

Gothic metal, melancholic and alternative, like it usually is from these guys. Excellently produced, the sound is in fact quite similar to the one we hear on the predecessor. The vocals are gothic, good vocals like it was last time. They have female vocals as well, not much but as additions to some of the songs, like the duets on Straight Up as the clearest example of this. Good variation on the album and a playing time as short as 38 minutes should ensure that the album doesn’t bore the listener. I think that this is a brilliant production, but a brilliant production is one thing but the quality of the album is also down to the quality of the songs. And what shall we say about that?

The songs are excellent in most regards; there is one really fantastic song on the album as well. I have really enjoyed this album as it caters to all that is good about the gothic genre, the great feeling of melancholy and all of that. The vocals are excellent, the mood is excellent and how the vary the album in both tempo and structure makes it very dynamic and one of the better albums in the genre that I have heard in a while. I can recommend this album for anyone who reads this webzine; I don’t think anyone who checks this out will be disappointed about it as I cannot really see any weaknesses with this album. The last album was very much up and down with highlights and low points, this has no such low points and the highlights are just as good.

Straight Up is the real highlight of the album – catchy, exciting, brilliant and memorable and one of the song highlights of the year so far. I really like the mentioned song but there are some more songs that can be worth mentioning as other standouts, like the opening track and the ending one which also are really good and enjoyable songs. It is a very enjoyable album, I like it a lot and I would say that it is well worth opening this cover and have a listen. In fact, I think you will do yourself a disservice if you overlook this album as it will be more than well worth the investment in the enjoyment it guarantees.
