Sometime you just know, you just know even before hearing that it has to be brilliant because a band called Sexthrash just cannot be bad, or can it? Their album Sexual Carnage is their debut that is being rereleased, in original it was released back in 1990 but the label Greyhaze decided that it was a clever idea to remaster the album and add some bonus tracks and then rerelease it. Never really been that keen on reissues to be honest, but since I have never heard the album when it originally was released and didn’t know it was a reissue when I started listening to it, I think it is fair to write down what I think about the album. Thing is though that you can actually look at the cover art, look carefully, and decide if it is your style of music or not. To be honest I don’t really think more needs to be written but if you are more interested you can read on.

Yes it is that kind of basement extreme metal, you know the one with so murky sound that you need to crank up the volume to at least the double just to make out anything but a rattling sound. And when you do that you kind of start hearing the waters dripping from stalactites in the roof, and the echo from the walls and how the moss dampens something of the sound bouncing from the rock walls. The singer sounds like he was found in a murky tree stump, complete with microorganisms and larvae eating and transforming it to return to the floor of the forest. That singer has now been microorganismed back to nature, funny that as the band is from Brazil, a nation that houses the biggest forest in the world. The production still sounds ancient and with technology more reminiscent of the Flintstones than something from 25 years ago.

The best thing about the album is that it is short even with several songs added compared with the original version, some of which are said to be covers by the band Sarcofago who’s drummer they had for this album. It plays for just over forty minutes and has sixteen tracks. But after saying that the going gets a bit murky again, like the reason for reissuing this album, whos idea was it that this was a good idea? It could hardly be reissued because of popular demand. The album sounded ancient when it was released back in 1990 and it hasn’t really aged well at all, and the remastering does nothing to address that problem. Good thing for the band is though that for some strange reason there are still fans of this kind of music and I did see at least one review stating that this album was excellent, wonder what kind of strange stuff that guy was smoking. There is no point in this album; no sane person can think this album is anything but awful.

But it is not only sucky music, the only thing you really need to see to dismiss this album without even hearing it is: Sextrash, Sexual Carnage and then look at the artwork, that should be enough to discourage anyone with any kind of reasonable intelligence. To be honest, I think that this band is ridiculous, I have still listened to this album and given it a fair chance but the music is just terrible and should never have been released in the first place and let alone been released again.
