What are the ghost irises seeing? Can it be some anecdotes of science and of soul? Maybe something completely different, like the cover artwork on this debut album of this Danish quartet. They are from Copenhagen and in the press release that follows this album a lot of band names are written in capital letters and some other stuff about the themes of the album and such things like striking vocals and such things. Progressive mealcore is mentioned and stylistically that is what it is.

I think that the band starts from the metalcore style and then goes progressive, the first thing you notice is the metalcore aggressive vocals but then you start noticing other things like the synths and the clean vocals. Striking sound, great sound, the production is very solid and they do not quite sound like anything I have heard – but then again I am not the most knowledgeable in this genre so there might actually be a few bands that are quite alike in style – bands that I don’t know about. They have a very varied sound and a lot of depth in their music and the short playing time of just over 40 minutes on ten tracks makes for an album that doesn’t run too much of a risk of boring the listener.

It may be an album that isn’t very easy to take in at first glance; it may require that you listen to it a few times before getting the maximum of entertainment for it. Both vocal styles are working really well and the dynamics of this album makes it very listenable, me likes it and thinks it is probably top three amongst all the albums I have heard in the metalcore genre. And it is very exciting as well; I think we could describe it as fresh and interesting. If you like very heavy progressive stuff you will probably like this album, it is diverse, dynamic and very interesting – well worth looking into.

I think the duo of song that goes under the Magenta moniker are the best on the album but they are all good tracks so picking a favourite feels a bit difficult but the ones I mentioned are the ones that sticks with me the most. I also think that the atmosphere is worth mentioning, the feel of the songs is great and the theme revolves around dreams, delusions, disappointment and escapism and this really is the key to this great atmosphere. But the themeatic part does not really take away the song oriented feel of this album, songs that stand out, songs that makes you want to play this album over and over again.

It may not be the easiest album to take in but it is well worth giving a bit of time and attention as it is a very rewarding album to listen to.
