Beer isn’t really something that appeals to me, it is just a silly beverage without any real positive traits. For Tankard however, it seems to be a religion, makes me wonder if they are alcoholics. This is their sixteenth album about such things and it is called R.I.B. for Rest In Beer which is another one of those kind of stupid wordplays from Gerre and his people. Fortunately they are a little about fun and doesn’t take themselves too seriously, that is always something positive. I always like those who does not take themselves too seriously and doesn’t take metal too seriously.

Musically it is the same kind of thrash metal they have always made, punchy with energy and power. Fat thrash metal one could almost say, catchy and energetic, powerful and beer driven is what it is. Nothing new or exciting here and unless you find beer refreshing there is nothing refreshing either. Competent production, well performed as it tends to be from these experienced bands with many solid albums behind them.

At the same time it is difficult not to be critical about the lack of fresh ideas and the repetitive nature of this band. This album offers nothing the musical world has been longing for, or missing. I kind of remain unimpressed by this album, it lacks good variation and the drive is only beer and that as a driving force isn’t really something you can keep going for a few million albums. Kind of a yawn I would say, it is the same thing as ever so if you like that I guess you’ll be impressed by this as well.

No real favourite tracks or anything on this album, just a decent collection of songs that make up a half decent album. It is good enough to listen to but doesn’t make a lasting impression, just a while’s distraction nothing more. I think it is an album that will appeal to none other than the fans of this band.
