One thing that strikes me, other than the less than funny cover artwork, is how I appear to have missed this band. They have five albums before this one and I have not even heard about them. Then again, according to some metal reviewer they are not really worthy rockers as they are too soft and too much pop. Who gives a shit? Metal is no seal of approval, rather the opposite. Poets of the Fall are from Finland and as them I cherish the richness of choice in the musical world and I always like it when a breath of fresh air end up in our mailbox. And they do have a brilliant band name.

This is very melodic alternative rock music, poprock is a description that holds true many times. But their music is varied and has a good drive to it, not so much in tempo or power but in variation and character and to be honest they are a lot more powerful than most of the black metal rubbish we end up throwing away. They boost an excellent production with soundscapes that are quite breathtaking in its magnificence, kind of like my recently acquired castles to which this album shortens the journey a fair bit. This despite the album being over fifty minutes long but variation on the album quite big so it never lulls into something that feels dreary or repetitive. I think it is an excellent production showcasing a band who have a good sense of creating music with hit potential and some relatively fresh perspective without being particularly innovative.

This is a great album, from every kind of perspective. Great vocals, excellent production and brilliant songs. It is an album to enjoy over and over again. I have been playing it on repeat for the last few days now and I just enjoy it more and more for each time I hear it and don’t grow bored with it. Sure Brighter Than the Sun is one that I can do without as it is a bit of a sleepy track that they could have skipped to keep the album below 50 minutes. But other than that tiny complaint I cannot say anything negative about this album, it has everything anyone who seriously like music can enjoy, actually it is an album that I think can be enjoyed by anyone unless of course you are one of those silly people who are ridiculously snowed in on a single genre and thinks everything else sucks.

These guys have done really well with several number one albums in the Finnish charts and it is easy to see why and I believe this album could do as well anywhere with the proper exposure. They have the hits, they have the quality and the accessibility to really work anywhere and for anyone. So unless you love everything we hate, this is an album for you and I can almost guarantee that you will not be disappointed. It is brilliant.

Best is the penultimate track Choice Millionaire which has a chorus that is to die for, it is brilliant and I can repeat that track time and time again. But there are more great tracks like Rumors, the opener Daze and Hounds to Hamartia to name a few of the great tracks that you will hear when enjoying this album. To quote the band: ”It's a wide wide world out there - And life can be a love affair - Or a cage of sheer despair - You’re a choice millionaire” and for those millions you can always build your castles in the air, something I have invested some of my millions to do. And now that I have reviewed it I can travel to those castles in my easy chair but before I go I leave a note of six points to these guys. Then i listen to their music while I voyage in my comfy chair.
