Nocturnal Brazilians, a quintet of guys from well-known Brazilian bands like Shaman or Angra. They are produced by Russell Allen of Symphony X fame, it is a supergroup with competence not possessed by many. This is one of those bands that needs no introduction regarding its members but this album is their first offering so the band will need a further introduction in that regard. It looks fascinating, and it seems fascinating considering those involved but good skills in the members does not really equal a great album which is a fact we have seen over and over again in the history of rock and metal music.

It is powerful yet melodic somewhat progressive heavy metal, good melodies and lots of power is what they offer. Some progressive stuff and a decent vocalist are other things I notice when listening to the album over and over again. Variation is good over the ten tracks and I think that the production is very good. You got to enjoy the soundscape of this album as it is a very interesting and dark one. I like the darkness and I think that this album has much to offer for the metal fanatic and it is not too long either. I think that we can describe this album as a quality production, thing is though that a good production does not automatically make it a good album but I can safely claim that it is.

It is excellent at its best, unfortunately its best is only track two and track six and the rest is not even close to that good. I enjoy Nocturnal Human race as it describes a reality for many in this society where fame and similar shallow things i desirable to many and then Sugar Pill because it is almost the direct opposite of the other track I like and the only really positive mood on the album that is quite dark otherwise. Much as I like darkness, my own mind is way too dark anyway so dark albums rarely thrill me too much. But that is not the problem with this album, it is that it doesn’t really grab me. I find nothing to hold on to, the two tracks I mentioned are memorable but the rest of the album is just a blur of sounds that is fun to listen to but nothing I remember afterwards. Just one of those albums in many regards.

So much quality and musical skill as well as knowledge, so great production and sounds, yet so little of interest. I wonder why this is the case so many times, maybe the music scene is already saturated enough and you really need to be amazing just to stand out these days, these guys are not quite there but do not take my word for it as I think you might still like it if you check it out. It is one of those albums that can be either or. So if you like the said similar artists, you should have a look at it, chances are that you might like it. For me the debut of Nocturnall just illustrates that the metal scene is slowly boring itself to death with more and more music that offers nothing different meaning that we have a massively saturated scene where the gems are increasingly fewer and further between.
