Well, the name Colosus is misspelled, Colossus should be it and that feels like a name that entails something colossal, something massive, something huge. It is a one man project, and we all know how good those tend not to be. One man bands/project tend to be a recipe for uselessness, there are of course always exceptions but that is generally the truth. The man with a silly name behind this project is the drummer of a band called Sidious and he thinks he knows best and can perform his songs in the best available way on each and every position. I think many poor albums could have been avoided if some musicians were a bit less self-delusional, if they had a touch more contact with reality. This album comes in the black metal genre and it looks dreadful, the cover is ugly and the logo is probably even uglier. So what about the insides.

”Colosus is darkness incarnate. A crushing, heavy, desperate and intense journey into blasphemy, pain, destruction, torture and endless agony.” or so they say, the label. It is that kind of ”atmospheric” black metal, slow, arduous, slow, monotonous, slow, raspy growly vocals, slow, did i say that it was slow and tormenting to listen to. Not because of its exciting emotive display but because it is all slow and not very impressively performed. The sound is fairly good, better than the average in the genre but the vocals are poor and the variation in nonexistent and the only salvation of this album is really the pretty good sound. And there is another major issue, the playing time is 66 massive hours… sorry, 66 minutes I mean, it just feels like hours when listening.

What’s the point? That is something I tend to ask, every time I try to listen to this. There is nothing bar the sound that is even remotely interesting about this album, it is long and it is amazing… -ly boring that is. Nah, it is impossible to see why someone would think that this is good. And I am not alone in thinking that because an internet search provided mostly negative or indifferent reviews, the positive reviews were only one or two that I find during my web search on this project’s name and album title. The majority of people who hear this album will be bored to tears, the question is wether anyone will really like it.

That is the problem with one man bands, no quality control as I doubt this would have passed the scrutiny of more than one person. But I guess that when the grip on reality and people imagining that they are better at something than they are it becomes crap because that is what this is, just like most one man projects, especially within the extreme metal genre. I would call this musical excrements that should be flushed down the musical lavatory. Is that something that interest you?
