Danish dynamite, the quintet named Annominus are looking to become a bit less anonymous with their debut album called End of Atonement. They are beginning with the end and goes from there, they do however have an EP from 2011 in their catalogue and has been around for a while so they are not directly newcomers. ”Formed in 2009 with a goal of creating a musical universe in line with their favourite bands from the rock- and metal scene. The intention was not to come up with a revolutionary new sound, but to take the best of what they knew and loved, and adding their own personal touch.” Is what the label says, and that is something I think is a more decent view for a new band. You should always, no matter what you do, try and find you own voice and a personal touch as the musical world is pretty saturated with copies of copies. Just following a genre is not the way to go if you want to get noticed.

There is one thing to aim for something and another to actually make it so. But these guys seem to have been noticed as they have made an impression in the danish underground scene. Now it is time to make it in the more mainstream scene and for a bigger audience. And they are doing it with music inspired by such different sources as Pink Floyd and Rammstein which makes their music quite diverse and dynamic. ”Best described as a mixture of hard rock and metal with crunching riffs, powerful melodic vocals, clean and dirty passages characterising the overall sound. Combined it creates pleasant flashbacks to the ‘00s metal scene, but with an injection of trucker-rock and a give’em-hell attitude that rips it into the new decade” is how the label describes it and that is actually the most accurate description I can think of.

Impressive, the vocals are great, powerful and yet melodic. The production is very impressive the sound dynamic, chunky riffing combined with melodic parts. And it is not only dynamic but also varied over the ten tracks and 41 minutes of playing time, I think you will find it difficult to be bored with the album. I think it is a great album, it seems as though it is towards Denmark you should be looking if you want to have strong and interesting hard rock/metal music.

I can strongly recommend this album, it has no weaknesses. It is powerful, it is polished, it is dirty, it is aggressive, and it is a lot more than that. An album that shows a fresh perspective on this kind of music, an album that feels personal. Annominus is definitely a band to look closer at, their debut album has more or less anything you can desire. I think you should have a look at it, it is a very impressive debut.

If I were to pick a favourite song it would be the ending song Finding Neverland which is a great ending of a great album. In fact the ending trio of songs are the highlight of a great album. So in the end I think that you should put the name Annominus in your memory banks, it is a band that impress and I believe they could be very successful because they push the right buttons to both appeal to a wide audience and inspire those with a more narrow taste in music. Annominus is a name to remember, a bit of a strange name but I think you will remember Annominus, because they’re great.
