This band took their time before releasing their debut album, something that is not the case with this second release which is released not long after the debut. I am referring to the second release by the Swedes, it is called City of Ghosts and has a pretty cool cover artwork. It has a strict lyrical framework where the stories take place in a desolate town, and deals with questions such as de-population, the big brother-society and the individual disappearing in the masses. Important questions today that deals with both the small town issues as well as the bigger city’s. It sounds exciting, but is it really?

It is an EP of four tracks and 21 minutes of music, it is also a high quality production with great sound and feel. Musically it is melodic death metal with that could be described as gothenburg death metal but with a bit more groove and some avant-garde elements to make it a bit more exciting than your everyday melodic death metal album. The vocals are all growled but still decently varied but not as much as on the debut album but I still think that you can say that this is a logical evolvement in comparison with the debut. It is better produced and sounds fresher as well, not that varied though I would say, at least not compared to the debut album. Sure an album can be more varied than an EP and this is still rather varied for an EP, and as I pointed out before it is a quality production.

And it is a quality product, strong sound, strong songs and an overall strong EP. I would have wanted an album rather than an EP as it this kind of music isn’t quite done justice in this shorter format. It is not hit songs that you listen to in a mixed playlist, at least not me. It also raises some questions like the one if this is an indication of what to expect from a new album that waits not too far down the line, or if it is a sign that the band will release music this way in the future. I hope for the former as that would point towards something really exciting when looking in terms of a possible new album, a new album will be a real killer if this is any indication.

Four good songs and as a taster for a new album it would be great but the press info speaks nothing about that so I don’t know if that is the case but if it is, I can’t wait to hear the album as it will be amazing. Anyways, for you who are either fans of the band or of melodic death metal I think this could be worth a look, to me it is a bit short and therefore not varied enough to really take off but four good songs nonetheless. Lets just hope this newfound productivity is kept up by Terrortory.
