They want to paint the world and judging by the cover art they want to paint it in bright colours, predominantly in green it would appear. And why not brighten our grey world a little bit, it would make it a happier and better place. I know this italian band from their debut EP The Spider and the Butterfly which I liked a lot and I did interview the band as well so I suppose I know a bit about them. This colourful story is the debut album of this italian sextet and it has a wonderful cover artwork which I hope the band frames and hangs on their rehearsal room wall, preferably a big copy. But other than looking at the cover art as a big as it comes I had some expectations for this album considering how good I found the EP last year.

Musically I think that in many ways it is a step up compared with the EP, the style is still the same melodic power metal with symphonic flirts and a strong female voice as well as a male singer. Not the male singer we often hear in the symphonic kind of power metal, meaning that he doesn’t growl but rather sings cleanly and very well, much better than he did last time around. Cecilia Petrini sings quite lovely as well, not in a soprano way but at times she pulls in that direction. I would describe this album as beautiful rather than bombastic and lovely rather than heavy, it is clear that the album is a high quality production. Many catchy songs and the album is dynamic and builds very much on the duets between Stefano and Cecilia, it makes them sound somewhat different from many other bands in a similar category. The variation is also quite big over the ten songs of the album, it is so without becoming incoherent.

A beautiful and impressive production, the singers does really well and so does the band. The fact is that this is an impressive album altogether, the songs are very strong and there are no weak ones among them. To imagine that this is a debut album is also a bit strange considering that brilliant sound, songwriting and all of that. But also considering the lack of adventure, it sounds like a band with experience but also as one who has something to loose by daring. I think they could have been a bit more edgy, a bit more brave in what they did, this album feels a tad safe. Not that it is a big problem and you need to be really picky to really notice it, but it is my role as a reviewer to be picky so I just mention it. The album is still brilliant, and the band has matured a lot since the EP last year.

All the tracks are good and it is not too easy to find any that really stands out but to me the title track Paint the World is a strong one with amazing vocals from Cecilia. Then the following ballad Roses & Thorns is another one that is very memorable. I am clearly impressed by how far the band has come, it is an impressive piece of work they have here. And I can recommend this album to anyone into strong music, it is lovely, it is impressive and it is great. Be sure to take a look at it, you won’t regret it.
